Ferrovia Firenze Borgo S. Lorenzo
Bivio S. Marco Vecchio and Posto Movimento Cionfo

As soon the works on the section to Campo Marte had finished, the works moved on the other short section, from Bivio Pellegrino to S.Marco Vecchio.
This was part of the original line, and its reopening have been delayed mostly because the line have been reopened also [even if this use has never been done until today] to allow carrying of residuals from boring of tunnels, so it was unadvisable to send the train to the central [passenger only] station.
Also at the time was not given for sure that the services to the central station would have been reinstated (full description on the page about the other link) and so the building was done in a way to allow only the service to Campo Marte.
Net result was that only that track was built, more interesting it was built as if it was the only one forever. As youi can see or right pucture the trak stayed on the side of the line to SMN, then did a curve toward Campo Marte departing fron the already built platform.
This arrangenment allowed a slightly higher speed on passing trains, but led also to an interesting feature: this platform was extended to avoid the gap you see in the picture.
But at the first time no train was scheduled to stop in this station, ad this occurred until september 1999.
In the meantime the works for the opther leg began, so that extension was removed and traffic diverted on track two. That extension platform did not ever see any stopping train!
The rebuilding so involved also a little destruction of the works already done.
At the same time was in progress the demolition of the tower at Bivio Pellegrino, so the iron tower mas temporarily laid here at S.Marco Vecchio and you can see in the picture below, with the line to CM (opened in january 1999) on the left and the railbed of the line to SMN (officially reopened in april 2001, not visible in this picture taken in december 1999)

Even the other platform, that had not yet received a track hat to be realigned as you can see in the picture below, the arramgement that had to be done.
The reason for this modification is a very long story ... If it was a single track line this stop would have become a station, with the two tracks rejoining on both sides of the station, with the reactivation of the line it was more convenient to have the two tracks separate, so the two platforms had not to converge.
So the actual junction and the passing tracks are some hundreds meters north, and here the station remain as two platforms along the line.
In the picture below we are at a further stage, after the track 2 had been laid an traffic continued on that one.

Two images of the place before and during the laying of the second track.

One of the last train to Campo Marte on track 1

And now two images after the end of the work on this end of the station whith the trains passing on track 2. Note on the image below the signal on the background. It is the same that was before on track [only] 1. Note the mention of #PL on that one. they are actually the full share of grade crossing that the line has (a fourth one is in the common section with the Firenze-Roma line, that in turn is the only one in more than 40 km on that line).

Further North the two lines run parallel, and after a douple crossover (along the grade crossings, you see the second crossover on the picture below) there is the Posto Movimento Cionfo , to allow for passing.
Actually all three stops of Salviati, Cure (new one from jumne 2001) and S.Marco Vecchio are considered as "peripherals" of Cionvo (where, as you can easily see, there are no provisions for passenger services)
